Volunteer somewhere if you don’t have a clue about fire hoses and garden hoses. It shouldn’t be difficult to find a volunteer job in the current economy. Many of my fellow firefighter volunteers have taken on secondary and even third jobs. There will be vacancies. This is an excellent way to get some firefighting experience.

Do your research on the market. There may only be one fire department in your area. It’s possible you did not know that there are more than one fire department in the area. It’s important to research where you would like to work. Check if there are career positions available and then submit an application. Most likely, you’ll have to sit for a test.
